It depends on the size of the staircase, materials, and how much you're changing. As a rule of thumb, an iron baluster swap runs about $2,000–$3,000, a railing replacement starts around $2,500, and tread replacement starts around $3,000. Treads with a matching railing usually land between $8,000 and $18,000. A custom staircase is priced by design, from a straight run to a grand curved stair in the $20,000–$70,000 range. Send us a few photos and we can usually give you a realistic budget range over the phone before anyone comes out. If that range makes sense, we'll take the next step from there.

Most custom staircases take about 4–6 weeks to build in our Whitehall shop. More complex projects, such as curved staircases or custom details, may take 8–12 weeks. Installation is usually completed in 1–3 days. Railing renovations run 4–6 weeks standard and 8–12 weeks for custom newels or curved handrail, with 1–3 days on site, tread replacement takes 1–2 days once the treads are ready, and an iron baluster swap is usually done in one day.

Usually, not very. Most of the work happens in our shop before we arrive. The staircase is out of use during the workday but safe to use each evening, so you can stay in the house. We protect the surrounding area and clean up before we leave. Most installations are finished in 1–3 days.

Both. We build custom staircases, install railings, and sell stair and railing parts directly from our Whitehall shop. A new staircase is delivered ready for installation, and once it's in place we return to install the handrail, newels, and balusters. If you just need parts, send us a material list, call ahead, or stop in. If you ever have a question after the job is done, give us a call. We stand behind our work.

Most of the time you don't need a new staircase. We can replace the railing, update the treads and risers, or help you figure out how much of the existing staircase actually needs to change. A full replacement means a new staircase built in the same opening, and that only makes sense when the structure itself is the problem.
