Stair tread replacement
match new floors, tread-by-tread, ~2 days
Homeowners · Lehigh Valley
Most Lehigh Valley homeowners come to us after a remodel — when the existing stair, railing, or treads no longer match. Send a few photos and we'll send a budgetary range the same business day.

Most homeowner questions live here. We'll confirm them on the same-day callback.
Tread replacement and railing replacement are the two jobs most homeowners come to us for — usually after a kitchen or flooring remodel, once the stair stops matching the new floors. Parts are available too, for the DIYer or basement remodeler.

The first thing we ask is what your floors are — your stair should match the house, not the other way around.

Same Whitehall shop, our own crew across all three — the difference is scope and ballpark. Pick the closest match; we'll dial in the rest by phone — a measure only if the job needs one.
Not sure which fits? Call (610) 443-2240 — we'll help you decide in 5 minutes. No commitment.

After a remodel most homeowners weigh three options. Here's the honest version of what each one actually gets you — measure, build, install, and who stands behind it when something loosens a year later.
Snyder Stairs
Big-box / online parts
General contractor
Family-owned & veteran-owned in Whitehall, PA since 1987 — two generations of stair specialists. If something loosens later, we come back and fix it.
We use the same process for every homeowner project. The team's actual numbers — not ours.
Snap a few of your existing stair (and any inspiration shots).
Same business day. A rough range, not a final bid.
You pick handrail profile, baluster pattern, finish. If the job needs an on-site measure of the rough opening we set one up; simpler ones run from photos. Showroom visit optional.
Triggers fabrication. We schedule the install date with you.
4–6 weeks in our Whitehall shop. Cut, fit & finished before delivery.
1–2 days on site. Final payment day 1. We take the trash.
What we do · What we don't
Snyder is a fabrication shop. We're transparent about what we do on-site at your home vs. what stays in our Whitehall shop — and what we leave to other trades.
Ranges to set expectations, not a quote. We give you a real budget on the first call, in 5–10 minutes.

Real Lehigh Valley homes
Kids and dust are fine — vacuum it up. We close the stairs safely at five o'clock each evening so you can use them at night. Most installs are one to two days; tread replacements can run a little longer because the stairs are out of bounds while we work. We tarp the foyer floors, set a dust barrier between the stair and the rest of the house, and haul-away the old material the same day. You sleep in the house every night.
Call us. We don't publish formal terms — the answer from a family-owned Whitehall shop is always 'something loosens later, we come back and fix it.' Our own crew that built your stair is the crew that comes back. Care + cleaning instructions go to you in writing at handoff, and you can always reach (610) 443-2240 to talk to someone who knows your project.
About 85% of our work — standard rail replacements, tread swaps — runs four to six weeks of fabrication. Custom newel posts and curved-stair work run eight to twelve weeks. An iron baluster swap on an existing stair is usually a one-day job with very little mess. We'll confirm the timeline on the first call before you ever commit.
Aim high. Tell us the most you'd want to spend, not the least. We aim the budget window above your final number so the actual proposal lands under. Most customers walk away saying 'that's about what we thought' — that's the goal, not surprise. Realistic. That's the word.
Yes — that's the budget window. Send three photos (existing stair, the floor it has to match, and the room context) plus your zip code. We send back a rough range (low/high $) the same business day. It's not a final bid, but it's accurate enough to decide if the project fits your budget. The final number firms up once we've seen photos and picked parts — an in-home measure only if the job calls for it (also free, no commitment).
If the form goes in before 3 PM ET on a business day, yes — by 5 PM. After 3 PM or weekends, you'll hear back the next business morning. We don't outsource calls; the person who calls you is on the Whitehall shop floor. We'd rather lose the lead than have you wait three days for a follow-up.
No. Most homeowners arrive with vague intent ("something that matches the floors") and find their style at the showroom. You can take sample blocks of finishes and baluster patterns home from the showroom visit. The Style Finder Quiz on /stair-styles/style-finder gets you a starting direction in 3 questions — useful but not required.
Yes — by appointment. Saturday visits are popular for working homeowners. The Whitehall shop is at 117 Franklin Street; we run Saturday slots 9-11AM. Walk-ins also welcome Mon–Fri 8A–4:30P with no appointment needed for a look around.

Most online stair-part shops are warehouses moving boxes — they've never coped a fitting or set a newel post. Snyder Stairs has been designing, building, and installing stairs and railings in Pennsylvania homes since 1987. Our reputation is built on job sites, not just websites.
