What designers come to us for
The stair-spec layer your studio shouldn't have to learn.
Designers come to us when the stair has to read 'designed' — period match for a restoration, an iron pattern that ties the room together, a baluster spacing that's not stock. We absorb that detail layer and return drawings, samples, and finished pieces that match the spec exactly. We design and build the stair and install the railing under one roof — parts sourced and coordinated under the Snyder umbrella, nothing lost between vendors.
The species and finishes your client will pick from.
American hardwoods and powder-coated iron. White oak and red oak are the most requested — but we run about a dozen species in all. The swatches here are a representative few; see the full set at our Whitehall showroom.

Jesse was very helpful giving us ideas for how we wanted to design our staircase and was very transparent on pricing. The installer was professional, kind, and efficient, and the final product was amazing.

We build your stairs here, in our Whitehall shop.
Designed, built, finish-fit, and crated under one roof at 117 Franklin Street since 1987. The parts we don't make — posts, balusters, newels, iron — we source from specialist suppliers and coordinate under the Snyder umbrella, so it all comes together as one project.

─── One roofPanel 02 of 04
Every part coordinated under one roof — no mid-project handoffs.
We design and build the stair, and install the railing. The wood, the iron, the newels and balusters all run through our shop and get fit together here — so you're not chasing three vendors to finish one staircase.

─── SpecialistsPanel 03 of 04
Specialists in stairs and railings. Not a general contractor.
It's a niche the Lehigh Valley doesn't have many of — most shops take orders for railings and outsource the stair, or do general renovation and treat the stair as a side scope. We do stairs and railings only. Every day, for 39 years.

39 years. 6,000+ railings. Two generations, one family.
Started in 1987 in a two-car garage in Phillipsburg, NJ. Moved home to Whitehall in 2008. Same family at the helm — and we ship parts nationwide from this shop.

Spec & CAD library
Drawings, blocks, AIA-friendly PDFs.
Download CAD blocks, catalog PDFs, and sample-request forms for your active spec set. Drawn AIA-friendly for complex & custom stairs — not stamped, no 3D renders yet.
Yes — sample blocks of the hardwoods we stock (white oak, red oak, poplar, and hickory lead, plus walnut, cherry, maple and more on request — about a dozen species) plus the 10+ iron baluster patterns. Call us and we'll ship the relevant samples to your studio for a specific project, or set up a recurring stocking arrangement for studios that spec us regularly.
02Will you build custom stain displays for our studio?
Yes. Tell us the species + stains you spec most, and we'll build a display panel and ship it to your studio. Yours to keep — no return required. Standard practice for designers we work with regularly; we update the display as your palette evolves. This is one of Jesse's favorite offers and there's no surprise charge for it on standard project work.
03How fast can you turn around CAD drawings?
Plan, elevation, and section drawings — drawn AIA-friendly for your spec set — typically deliver 5–7 business days from contract. We do CAD for complex, curved, and custom stairs; drawings aren't stamped, and we don't do 3D renders yet. We include CAD on contract every time. PDF + DWG, ready to drop into your spec set.
04How particular can you get on details — post tails, profile edges, baluster spacing?
As particular as the spec demands. Repeatable profiles come from our suppliers; we cut, fit & finish to your call-outs in the shop. Standard tolerance is ±1/16"; tighter tolerances on special call-outs. Send us the detail and Jesse will tell you on the phone whether it's a shop-floor question or a sourcing question.
05Do you handle period restoration sourcing?
Yes. We source matching period parts — turned newels, balusters, finials — or have them made when they're off-catalog, then fit & finish them in the shop. Coordination with preservation boards is included on contract. Most period estimates come back inside a week.
06How does this differ from working with us via a contractor?
Designer-direct: you spec, we build, drawings + samples flow straight to you. We handle the SKU questions; you hold the design vision. Through a contractor: same work, but the contractor stays the GC and handles the client. Either way, the fabrication and standards are identical — call us and we'll figure out the right model for the project.
Call (610) 443-2240 or email support@snyderstairs.com — drawings, samples, custom stain displays, all flow back the same day. No accounts, no signup. Jesse reviews every spec personally.
